I mentioned in the previous post that I’m watching my friends’ kids, one girl, age 4, and one boy, age 2. Knowing that we’d have another little boy over, I brought out something that I keep for special times when I want the kids to be occupied for a long time, particularly the younger ones. If Handsome didn’t have the camera at the office, I’d show you a picture.
What is this special toy? A box of beans. Pinto beans, to be exact. A big clear plastic box with about 10 pounds of pinto beans, as well as cups and spoons.
Right now I have it set up inside a small inflatable pool and the two boys are busy digging and pouring and sifting, getting quite a few beans on the floor in the process. I know whenever I get out this box that there will be beans on the floor, so I intentionally choose the times when I know I can handle it. It’s in our school room, which is newly remodeled and has a wood floor, so it’s easy to sweep up. Before we had this I put it on the tile kitchen floor.
Can’t think of what to get a busy two year old as a gift this Christmas? I highly endorse the box of beans!
