Refrigerator from heaven

Refrigerator from heaven

I LOVE how God gives us amazing gifts.

Handsome and I have just returned from our date night - Costco for Polish dogs and then on to Best Buy and Lowe’s to look at refrigerators. Very romantic, I know :)

We had already decided that we wanted a refrigerator with French doors, which means the freezer is on the bottom and the refrigerator part is on the top with side by side doors. And we were pretty sure that we wanted the GE Profile. When we went to Best Buy we saw that Samsung made an almost identical version for about $300 less. Since we’re not brand loyal and we also discovered that Samsung helped GE make the Profile, we were happy to go with that one. But with a price tag of $2100 we weren’t in a hurry considering that we’re not moving into our house until the end of the month.

We went over to Lowe’s and nearly peed our pants when we saw that they had the exact same style, same maker, just one version older, for only $1299!! Turns out they had just received the new version, which we saw at Best Buy, a few days ago and put the floor model on clearance in order to get rid of it. The only difference is is handle on the freezer drawer and, seriously, it’s no big deal. The floor model also has a slight scuff on the side, which won’t be visible anyway.

I am so doing the happy dance. For those of you in New Zealand, you will think that this fridge is gigantic. And it is.  It’s nearly 26 cubic feet. I can’t find a picture that I can download, but here is a link for those of you that are really interested, which I suspect will only be my mother-in-law :)

And for those of you that are thinking, wow, that’s still a lot of money, yeah, it is. It’s a great bargain but we could still get a fridge cheaper if we wanted to. We decided to go for the ice/water in the door because Handsome is water-adverse and anything that will help him drink more is worth the investment. But this luxury adds another $500 to the price. And having a freezer on the bottom adds a few hundred as well. We’re looking at it as an investment in our health.

The only small minor glitch is that we have to get the stainless steel one. We had previously decided we would get white because A) our other appliances are white and B) it’s cheaper. However, one simply can’t pass up this kind of savings for the kind of fridge we’re getting.

And just in case we ever buy a frozen pizza, there is a special little place in the freezer for it. No joke! They call it a pizza basket or something like that. I don’t think I have EVER bought a frozen pizza. I’ll have to come up with something else to use it for.

Any ideas?

hanging out for a washing line

One of the first things we’ll do in our new home is install a washing/laundry line. In New Zealand homes this is standard. In American homes, not so much. My dad thinks we’re going to look like the Beverly Hillbillies. The fences are at least 6 feet tall and the back fence is even higher because we back onto a street. I don’t think the neighbours will even know it’s there.

Now that the outside temps are rising every time I turn on the dryer I can feel the temperature of our apartment rising.

Do you have a washing line? Do you use it? Do you use it year round or only in fine weather?
