crunchy kitchen floors

crunchy kitchen floors

One open bag of pretzels + one curious toddler = One VERY crunchy kitchen floor. I suppose this is what I get when I don’t put away all food immediately upon returning home from a trip. Our 16 month old very quickly found the bag of pretzels and helped herself. Part of me knew what she was doing but decided not to worry about it because of the occupying nature of what she was doing and I was in the middle of making dinner (if whipping up a box of Kraft Mac N Cheese counts as dinner). I’ve just now finished washing the dishes and was just about to have a tantrum from all the crunch-crunch-crunching of the pretzels under my bare feet.

Why didn’t I sweep them up instead of complaining about it on my blog? Because that simply wouldn’t have made a very good post, would it?

And I’m going to file this one under ‘All things kitchen’ because I haven’t sorted out my categories very well and this definitely fits in that one.

summer at last?

I wouldn’t say that we’re really in the dog days of summer yet, but we’re actually experiencing summer weather now. We’ve just come inside from a romp in the sprinkler with the kids. Our oldest got a flower contraption that you hook to the sprinkler and it spins around, spraying water everywhere. What fun! I got some video which I must edit and email to my parents who are always begging for video of the kids. But as I watched them, I thought - wow, this is what having kids is about. Watching them have so much fun in the sprinkler. I don’t have to take them to the pool or buy them fancy gear, just turn on the sprinkler and let them go at it. Note to self: fun does not require batteries.

attack of the killer picnic implement

We returned earlier this afternoon from a trip to Wellington to visit a friend who had flown in from England. We left very early (like 5:30 am) to return home, as it’s an eight hour drive and we wanted to return home shortly after lunch. We got on the rode and drove about 45 minutes before stopping to get some breakfast food at a local supermarket. I found some bagels which looked remarkably like real bagels instead of bread shaped like a bagel. And so of course I also had to buy cream cheese to spread on the bagels. Of course.

As we’re driving along, me dishing out grapes and bottles of juice, I start slicing the bagels using the killer-picnic-implement-disguised-as-a-butter-knife from the new picnic set we got as a Christmas gift from some good friends. I’m almost finished slicing the bagel when OOPS, I missed the bagel and sliced my pinky finger. Blood comes gushing out (gush might be a bit of an exaggeration, but it was definitely oozing at a great rate) so I stuck it in my mouth, hoping to stem the flow. My husband looks at me and says “Are you okay?” I decided to be honest and say, no, but of course I had a finger in my mouth so I vigorously shook my head no. He asked if I wanted him to pull over so I could get the first aid kit, and I emphatically shook YES. So we pulled over and I got out of the van and got the first aid kit out of the back, all the while my three year old is asking a million questions. I got the bandaid on and everything seemed to be okay.

My finger hasn’t fallen off yet from any gangrenous affects so hopefully I’ll leave to write another blog post. Aren’t you relieved?
