I would like to go on record saying that New Zealand food is not bad, just different. I've lived here long enough that I can now find things that I like and even look forward to eating when we go out.

And the best Italian food I've ever had was at a restaurant in New Plymouth who's name escapes me. But they also have a restaurant in Parnell, in Auckland, which is the ritzy part of town. But that meal cost us $60 :) And worth every penny!

now don't be too harsh!

You AMericans are just plan spoilt for choice and cheapness with eating out!

We do have great cafes but they cost :-)

Thanks for the enchilada recipe - will have to try that out. Sounds scrummy. Love Mexican food - not that I've eaten a lot of it, but love it!

Have you anymore good Mexican recipes to share?\

Cheers, Wilm

For example, NZ McDonalds serve a burger called a Kiwi Burger which has egg and beetroot on it, in addition to the burger. The use of beetroot on sandwiches and burgers is a new thing to me. I've gotten used to it.
And they put unusual combinations on their sandwiches. Things like cheese and pineapple, or cheese and onion (yuck!). When I first moved here I was just so sincerely disappointed with the eating out options. Turned out to be a good thing, considering that eating out here is really expensive. You've either got McDonalds or the like (which costs about $8 for a combo), or restaurant level food, which could cost you at least $20 a person. In the years that i've been here there has been a rise in cafes, but still, you're looking at probably $15 a person for lunch.

Now I'm curious, what are "New Zealand tastes"?

I have to admit it was hard for me to move from Dallas to Indiana, with the loss of good/cheap Mexican food! But just like NZ, Indiana is progressing! :-)
